Description

Rock Point School, a small independent boarding and day high school, is looking for a school nurse to join our team! Though our school nurse is a part-time employee, they are an essential part of our staff and we rely on their medical expertise. We are looking for someone who has energy, patience, a sense of humor, and the desire to help guide young people through the challenges of transitioning from adolescence into adulthood. 

This is a part-time position; 24 hrs/week. Training hours begin in August, and the job officially begins on August 24, 2022.  Position runs on the school calendar, finishing each year in mid-June.

Responsibilities:

• Counsel and educate students about health issues 
• Educate and communicate with staff about student health concerns
• Communicate with parents and other health providers as needed
• Manage medications for students
• Treat students and staff for minor illnesses and injuries
• Supervise and/or direct the administration of students' specialized health needs
• Be a point person in the morning to check in with students who are not in class
• Maintain up-to-date health and immunization records for all students
• Stay up-to-date on COVID best practices for schools and advise the administration on COVID protocol.

Requirements

The ideal candidate:

• Holds an earned degree (ADN or BSN) from an accredited program in nursing
• Holds a valid license as a Professional Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Vermont
• Has experience working with adolescents and understanding of adolescent development
• Has knowledge of mental health issues such as anxiety and depression
• Must be able to work independently as there is no onsite clinical supervision
• Is a creative problem solver
• Has patience and humor
